Får känslan av att du drabbades av samma fel som mig - Eclipse letar själv efter en JVM enligt egen lista, och därför kör GNU's varian i första hand (avsett vilken som är default).
När jag manuellt ändrade till Sun's så fick den en j*vla fart!
Kör dock fortfarande Emacs, men då fler här på utvecklingsavdelningen konstigt nog kräver grafisk IDE så får jag väl sälla mig till majoriteten (ehrm, vi är 2 här...) så Eclipse verkar ligga nära till hands.
B.t.w. hade nog Emacs klarat dina krav galant, då är det bara användaren som sätter gränserna.

Jag använder Emacs just på grund av 'no fonts, no boldface, no underlining.' och att den inte slösar med 'real estate' på skärmen.
Den klassiska kritiken mot Emacs är att den är seg, men det gäller inte längre på en modern dator. Däremot är den kanske svår att lära sig. C++ browsern är kanske inte helt bra, men för C-programmering tycker jag att Emacs är perfekt. Men Emacs kräver att man konfigurerar efter eget tycke och smak.
